After an afternoon sound-check at the hall, we go our separate ways to rest up for the concert. A nap would be nice, but forget it, the anticipation is too much.
On my way to the hall, I can't seem to find the correct backstage entrance. I search and ask around, but no one seems to know where the performers enter! Ten anxious minutes later, I decide to run around the building and enter by the front door. I'm huffing and puffing. Not exactly how I planned my LAGQ debut. I have to convince the ticket-taker that I'm part of the group. She asks me to do a little song and dance to show her (I'm not making this up!). So I tap dance around and drum my stomach a bit... OK, she lets me in! I can go warm up now!
Everyone in the group has their own routine backstage. Generally it consists of running your fingers through a few musical passages, stretching, getting mentally focused, and consuming protein! The guys are fairly healthy eaters, and protein is the preferred type of food backstage - roasted chicken, nuts, protein bars. Mmm mmm good! Also veggies, tea, water. And maybe a cookie or two - got to get a few carbs in there.
Finally, we take the stage. Electric! Everyone is so excited to finally play this first program with Luciana. The energy is burning within all of us and the deep commitment we all have to the music carries us through nicely. There's nothing quite like the first performance of a program. Everyone is so focused. We get the first one under our belts successfully and I finally sleep a deep sleep that night!
